I wanted to call this blog 'The Emerging Butterfly' as we have been so inspired by the idea of emerging brilliance and that inside us all is the possibility to do the very best that we can, better than we can ever know. We have never been on picture number one but we are hovering somewhere between two and three. In the past eight weeks we have started on the road to becoming a department emerging into something beautiful. Rather like Austin's butterfly.
I am a head of a lovely English department in a Midlands school. This is my first year in post. I am neither new to the school or to middle management but I am still on a sharp learning curve.I am not sure that anything prepares you for the relentless pressure that is the post of Head of English. I want to record here my journey as a HoD and the progress of the department. It will also track our emergence from something that is OK into something brilliant. Just like that butterfly.
